Car Care Tips

At Glenn’s Tire & Service Company we firmly believe that well-informed vehicle owners will take better care of their vehicles. That’s why we make an effort to help our customers understand the recommended maintenance services that will help deliver long service life, higher gas mileage, and a trouble-free driving experience. Vehicle Manufacturers publish recommended maintenance procedures and service intervals which vary widely depending on the vehicle and its primary use. For that reason the items below are intended only as broad general guidelines. Why not call Glenn’s Tire and Service Company today and let one of our trained professionals give you the answers to your specific service and maintenance questions? We maintain subscriptions to many technical databases which will allow us to look up your vehicle manufacturer’s recommended maintenance schedules.

General Maintenance and Care

  • Change your oil every 3,000 to 5,000 miles depending on vehicle and service.
  • Change your other fluids according to the recommended schedule.
  • Schedule a professional maintenance check every 15, 30, 60, and 90,000 miles.
  • Replace your air filters periodically as recommended. The interval will also depend on your driving conditions.
  • Replace fuel filters on a regular schedule according to your manufacturer recommendation.
  • Keep your battery clean and the terminals and connections free of corrosion.

Tire Maintenance and Care

  • Rotate your tires every 3,000 to 5,000 miles. A good time to do this is every time you have your oil changed.
  • Check tire inflation pressures weekly. Low tire pressure will affect tire wear, safety, fuel economy, handling and comfort. Recommended inflation pressures are found in your Owner’s Manual and are checked cold.
  • Have wheel alignment checked semi-annually or whenever irregular tire wear is observed. Mis-aligned wheels cause tire wear, loss of fuel economy, and handling issues.
  • Check your spare tire each month and keep it properly inflated so it¹s ready to go when you need it.

Gas Mileage Tips

  • Check and/or change your air filter every 6 months to improve fuel economy and keep your engine running smoothly.
  • Don't top off. Don't bother topping off when filling your car's gas tank. Any additional gas is just going to slop around or seep out.
  • Tighten up that gas cap. Gas will evaporate from your car's gas tank if it has an escape. Loose, missing or damaged gas caps cause 147 million gallons of gas to evaporate each year.
  • Go for the shade. The hot summer sun that makes the inside of your car feel like a sauna also evaporates fuel from your gas tank.
  • Use the right oil. You can improve your car's gas mileage by 1 percent to 2 percent by using the manufacturer's recommended grade of motor oil.

And most important of all……

  • Pay attention to your vehicle’s warning signs. If something doesn’t sound right or feel right have it checked immediately by a service professional. Most failures can be avoided by following a good maintenance schedule and heeding the warning signs your vehicle gives you.
